Welcome
Historically sewing and embroidery has been seen as a chore mainly done by women for their family. You could say that women have been artists in their own right by expressing their skills using material and techniques associated with women’s crafts such as quilting, embroidery, and sewing. I have incorporated that mainly female experience by in effect painting with cotton and silks, elevating women’s crafts into an art form.
I became hooked on stitching after entering a small anti war panel for the women’s peace banner in Exeter, I really began to think about war from a woman’s and mothers perspective. I began to draw on bandages and stitch individual panels representing incidents of horror, and show the effect this has on the victim, children and families.
